We’ve put together the following FAQ information below about dermal fillers so you can feel completely prepared and well informed as you make decisions about your medical aesthetic journey.

General Information

Dermal fillers are medical-grade, gel-like injections injected under the skin to:

  • replace lost volume and restore smoother, firmer contours
  • reduce facial lines

Dermal fillers are most commonly used to:

  • plump thin lips
  • add subtle volume and shallow contours to cheeks and the jawline
  • soften creases and folds
  • soften the appearance of deep creases and retracted scars

We only do dermal fillers on the face, so you can feel confident knowing we are strictly tailoring our service to your specific aesthetic goals.

Dermal fillers are very safe when performed by a nurse practitioner at a medical practice like TBH Medical. We use only FDA-approved dermal filler products and adhere to medical practice protocols to ensure safe, optimal health outcomes for all our patients.

We provide our patients with the top-of-the-line hyaluronic acid dermal fillers. Hyaluronic acid fillers are renowned in the medical community for their dependability, smooth application, and predictable results.

Provider Specifics

At a direct primary care practice like TBH Medical, we make sure to include all aesthetic services in your overall health and wellness profile. This ensures personalized, one-on-one care with a direct relationship with you and your care, and a clinical, safe environment, unlike a high-volume med spa.

TBH Medical is a direct primary care practice led by a nurse practitioner with the necessary certifications and specialized training in advanced aesthetic procedures and injectables. We are proud to share that this specialized training provides us with the in-depth knowledge of facial anatomy needed to deliver precise and safe aesthetic services to all our patients.

We only work with manufacturers and distributors authorized by us in the US, ensuring that all products that we use are authentic. We carefully control our inventory and follow all medical storage and handling guidelines to ensure each syringe is perfect every time.

Your nurse practitioner will:

  • review your medical history
  • discuss your aesthetic goals
  • examine your face during a dermal filler consultation

Then, we’ll create a treatment plan and let you know what product we will use, what to expect, and what your treatment will cost before it begins.

Depending on the number of treatment areas, the dermal filler treatment can typically take 15 to 45 minutes. Including consultation and preparation time, a dermal filler appointment usually takes less than an hour.

Most patients experience little discomfort. The most common fillers, for example, contain lidocaine, an anesthetic that numbs the treatment area during injection. We also typically apply numbing cream beforehand to maximize your comfort throughout your treatment. We do NOT recommend you take any painkillers or drink any alcohol prior to treatment.

Dermal fillers have virtually no downtime, so you can resume regular activities soon after you leave our clinic. You may have some swelling or bruising around the injection site, but this is expected and should resolve within a few days. Our nurse practitioner will give you take-home self-care instructions to optimize recovery.

You will have increased volume and smoother skin in your treatment areas immediately after getting dermal fillers. Your final results should be clear after one to two weeks.

The time frame for how long your fillers last depends on the type of product used, where it is injected, and how your body metabolizes it. Most hyaluronic acid fillers last from six to 18 months as the body breaks them down.

Hyaluronic acid is easily reversible. If you’re not happy with your dermal fillers or have an allergic reaction, your nurse practitioner can inject hyaluronidase, an enzyme that dissolves the product.

Typical side effects will be limited to the area in which the treatment was administered. These side effects can include:

  • redness
  • swelling
  • bruising
  • tenderness

These side effects will be temporary in nature, and will typically resolve on their own in 1-2 weeks. These are expected, normal responses to the treatment.

For the most part, dermal fillers are safe for a wide range of different skin types, but some medical conditions may increase the risk of adverse events. For example, those with a bleeding disorder, autoimmune disease, or a skin condition are generally advised not to receive filler. TBH will make sure that the treatment is right for you in your consultation.

As a nurse practitioner clinic, we can evaluate and manage potential complications, such as vascular occlusion or allergic reactions. Emergency protocols are in place to manage any complications. We also have all the appropriate reversal agents on-site at TBH to provide the best care for patients.

Cost & Financial Information

The cost depends on the type of product and the amount needed to achieve optimal aesthetic results. We are happy to go over costs during your consultation to provide you with an estimate before the day of your treatment.

Yes! There are member benefits that TBH patients are eligible for on all our services, including dermal fillers.

Pre-Treatment and Aftercare

Avoid blood thinners (aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, etc.) one week prior to your appointment. Come to your appointment with a freshly cleaned, makeup-free face.

Apply a cold compress to the site for about 10-15 minutes, and sleep with your head elevated the first night. You’ll also receive a printed aftercare sheet that walks you through specific medical instructions to help maximize healing and longevity.

For 24 to 48 hours following the procedure, you should not engage in heavy workouts, saunas, hot tubs, or alcohol. Furthermore, you should not rub or press firmly on any treated areas, as you risk shifting the filler.

Dermal Fillers vs. Other Procedures

Botox relaxes the specific muscle that causes a dynamic wrinkle, while dermal fillers replace lost volume, physically filling static wrinkles. Although both have very different mechanisms of action, they are often used together and can result in a more harmonized, full-face treatment.

Often, dermal fillers are combined with neuromodulators like Botox or professional, in-office skincare treatments. Your nurse practitioner will help curate a personalized treatment plan to best address all of your concerns.

Colorado Springs Specific Considerations

Colorado Springs’ high altitude and arid air are notorious for skin dehydration, so we often recommend hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers to our clients for their unique ability to draw moisture back into skin tissue. We also recommend local clients be especially conscious of hydration protocols, both before and after treatment.

In Colorado, we get a lot of UV exposure. This exposure in El Paso County is especially significant due to the elevation, which is known to contribute to the earlier breakdown of dermal fillers. To protect this investment, please wear SPF daily on exposed areas.

Patient Testimonials and Success Stories

Certainly! We have a comprehensive library of before-and-after images from our nurse practitioner’s treatments. You will have an opportunity to review them with her in your first consultation.

Of course! We have helped many local patients in Colorado Springs achieve their skin rejuvenation goals. Please be sure to review client testimonials on our site, as they highlight our commitment to safety and quality of care.
